The clinical response was excellent in 35% and good in 33% of moxifloxacin recipients versus 26% and 17% of placebo recipients, respectively. The bacteriological response was also excellent in 36% and good in 35% of the moxifloxacin recipients versus 26% and 19% of the placebo recipients, respectively. Common adverse events (both drugs) were diarrhoea (7% and 5%, respectively), nausea (5% and 4%, respectively) and headache (4% and 2%, respectively). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups. For CAP, moxifloxacin 400 mg daily was well tolerated and effective in non-severe CAP.A new framework for clinical quality improvement in palliative medicine. Clinical audit and clinical quality improvement are widely used in the management of cancer. The success of these approaches in palliative medicine has not been systematically studied. We have devised a framework for the introduction of these concepts. The framework will be applied to the first three cases to be studied by a palliative clinical audit group in Northern Ireland.
